It is 2023, and 2024 is coming soon. And with these new years, we are seeing color trends change from earlier years.
So what colors are going out?
1. No longer a grey area…
Grey is like that friend you had in elementary, that suddenly when you hit high school you suddenly realized he wasn’t quite as cool as you remembered. So, on the surface, you have nothing to do with him, but deep down inside you always have a little soft spot for him.
However, no matter how big the soft spot is, it’s time to step aside, grey, there are some new kids on the block. “Step by step” grey is moving to the sidelines (Get the reference? If you know, you know… 😏).
Instead of dull shades of grey, people are moving to more earth-type tones, bringing less cold color palettes and warmer neutrals with colors as accents.
2. It’s all been a little white lie…
Much like grey, white has become that backseat driver. Don’t get me wrong, it is the perfect blank canvas to start with. But layering white on white is becoming a big no-no in design.
Not only does it make the space feel cold and unwelcoming, but it also lacks personality.
Not to mention the cleanability aspect. Have you ever tried to hide stains in white furniture? Although there are plenty of great cleaning products out there, finding something that is a little more practical is a better option!
We love white, but it is 2023, use it as the background, and bring some color in as the accents. The best way you can display your company’s values and culture is by including colors that show that.
Take a page from Barbie’s book, don’t be afraid of color!
3. The black sheep of the family…
Black is beautiful. But so much like grey and white, it’s cold.
We don’t want to be cold anymore.
It’s 2023, the world has enough horror and coldness, we want to fill the warmth of something for a change.
Designers are easing back on black and focusing more on earth tones: less exposed black metal and more stoneware and pottery.
And color.
It’s already been mentioned, but the color is a designer’s best friend. Maybe it was Barbie, or maybe it was the fact that this year’s Pantone Color of the Year is Viva Magenta, but either way color is back and better than ever.
So, start designing like you are in 2023.
Color. Earth Tones. Warmth. Fun.
Be yourself, and show your personality through your design. Or display the company’s personality through the design.
No more boring colors!
